Amazon ECR raises image layers to 200GB

Amazon ECR raised the maximum layer size for images sent by Docker push to 200GB, four times the 50GB limit that still applies to SDK and CLI uploads through UploadLayerPart, AWS announced. AWS explicitly pitches the larger layer for embedding language models, genomics datasets, and large binary dependencies instead of splitting them across layers or external stores. For teams watching cloud capacity become Amazon’s capital-intensive moat, the practical implication is narrower: model-heavy containers just became simpler to package, but build pipelines must use Docker push to get the new ceiling.
