EON targets 2.4Tbps space links for AI labs

Endeavor Optical Networks emerged from stealth with $10.75 million to target 2.4-terabit-per-second links between data centers using roughly 20 laser-equipped satellites. TechCrunch reports that the startup is pitching hyperscalers and AI labs, plans a demonstration satellite by late 2027, and must bridge a formidable gap between today’s 2.5Gbps demonstrations and its target; EON’s official site says each medium-Earth-orbit relay would connect points up to 10,000 kilometers apart. For builders following the orbital-compute race around AI infrastructure, this is a backhaul bet rather than a capacity option: file the route economics away, but do not plan workloads around unproved atmospheric links.
