Worker AI use reaches 62% as guidance lags
Professional generative-AI use reached 62% of U.S. workers, up 16 percentage points in a year, while only 40% reported clear company usage guidelines. The idealis and CivicScience survey covered more than 15,000 workers and found guidelines rose just five points; workers with clear rules reported 80% access to skill development versus 56% without them. Employers running a measured Copilot pilot rather than an unmanaged rollout should treat the 22-point adoption-policy gap as shadow-AI exposure: publish approved tools, data boundaries, and escalation paths before usage hardens into habit.
