AI maps 766 genes linked to schizophrenia

A Nature Genetics study identified 766 genes associated with schizophrenia, including 641 absent from earlier transcriptomic analyses, by combining gene-expression networks with genetic data across six post-mortem brain regions and 62 Psychiatric Genomic Consortium cohorts. The paper reports that its trans-regulatory model predicted up to 1.8× as many genes as a cis-only baseline in an independent GTEx test, while Wired’s report places the work in the context of data from more than 102,000 people.
