Tencent spends 52.8B yuan on AI capacity
Tencent’s second-quarter revenue rose 11% year over year to 204.8 billion yuan, helped by AI-driven ad recommendations, while the company spent 52.8 billion yuan on capital expenditure, according to Tencent’s official second-quarter results release. Marketing-services revenue climbed 22% to 43.6 billion yuan as the WeChat parent expanded compute for its models and Xiaowei assistant, but IFRS profit attributable to shareholders rose just 0.7%. Builders should file the ratio: Tencent’s quarter spent roughly one yuan of capex for every four yuan of marketing-services revenue, a reminder that AI monetization can arrive with an infrastructure bill before it arrives as margin; the archive’s analysis of AI power premiums tracks the constraint.
