China switches on a 100,000-card AI cluster

China has put its first fully domestic 100,000-card AI supercluster into service at the Zhengzhou node of its national supercomputing network. CGTN’s account, citing the National Development and Reform Commission, says the cluster combines scientific and AI computing, while a Zhengzhou government report says it reached full load in its first week and processed more than 150,000 jobs per day. Operators tracking China’s sovereign compute buildout should read the figure as installed domestic capacity and a networking milestone—not proof that every card matches frontier GPU performance or is available on commercial terms.
