Amazon's Texas AI plant could emit 33M tons
Amazon’s planned natural-gas power plant for a Texas AI data center could emit approximately 33 million tons of carbon dioxide a year, according to the reported Pecos County project and its New York Times sourcing. That would make the plant one of the largest emitters in the United States, even as Amazon says the world looks different from when it co-founded the Climate Pledge. Builders should treat onsite generation as a permitting, emissions, and community-risk decision—not merely a shortcut around grid queues—alongside the recent analysis of data-center power premiums.
