OpenAI stores Mac activity events for 48 hours

OpenAI’s opt-in Computer History feature turns activity from selected Mac apps and websites into a searchable timeline for ChatGPT and Codex, retaining raw interaction events locally for up to 48 hours while memories remain until the user deletes them. The feature’s launch documentation says it is available in the macOS desktop app to Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, with admins required to enable it for workspaces; 9to5Mac’s account notes that it records accessibility events rather than screenshots, audio, or screen video. Teams should treat the feature as a new sensitive telemetry and prompt-injection boundary, not a convenience toggle, and define app exclusions and consent rules before enabling it alongside the archive’s analysis of enterprise AI’s context gap.
