AI agents coordinate past 1,000-agent groups
A Science Advances study found that language-model agents can coordinate through majority-following, with the critical group size for advanced models exceeding 1,000 agents—larger than typical human informal groups—before coordination becomes unattainable. The paper tested binary opinion dynamics across architectures and group sizes, and says the majority force weakens as groups grow. Builders scaling agent swarms should treat consensus as a system property to measure rather than assume: Anthropic’s multi-agent study shows why coordination and safe execution are separate gates.
