Nvidia backs OpenAI's 8GW Ohio campus
Nvidia will invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy and provide credit support for the initial 4.25 IT-gigawatts of the PORTS-Pike buildout, while OpenAI says it has agreed to secure roughly 8 gigawatts at the Ohio campus and expects the first 800 megawatts in 2028. Nvidia’s project announcement says the site will be built under a 20-year lease and exclusively host Nvidia AI infrastructure; The Verge’s report cites Nvidia’s filing as guaranteeing up to $105 billion to support the data center. Builders should read the structure as a financing-and-capacity signal, not delivered compute: permits, power plants, transmission, and financing still gate the later phases, much like the archive’s analysis of AI power contracts.
