OpenAI funds 14 projects on AI policy

OpenAI is funding 14 projects led by independent organizations with a total of $1 million plus up to $1 million in API credits to test policies for economic opportunity and societal resilience, the company says in its grant announcement. The six-month projects span the United States, European Union, Brazil, Singapore, and South Korea, and OpenAI says more than 400 people and organizations answered its call for proposals; results are due in 2027. Operators should treat this as policy-infrastructure spending as well as philanthropy: the projects will generate evidence around labor, benefits, energy, privacy, and safety that could shape future deployment rules, much like the archive’s look at AI’s widening enterprise adoption gap.
