Claude Code reaches 39% developer adoption

JetBrains’ 2026 Developer Ecosystem Survey says 39% of professional developers used Claude Code at work in May–July, up from 18% in January, while GitHub Copilot fell to 21% and Codex reached 16%. The survey covers more than 15,000 developers and reports that 90% used a coding agent weekly, but it measures adoption—not task success or retention—and comes from a company building its own agent ecosystem. Engineering leaders should treat the numbers as a reason to recheck tool sprawl and budget allocation, building on the archive’s analysis of JetBrains’ 10× AI bill, not as a mandate to standardize on one agent.
