Google buys $10M Spirit AI data trove

Google has bid $10 million for bankrupt Spirit Airlines’ internal archive, including roughly 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams chats, 17 million OneDrive files, and 516 code repositories. The reported bankruptcy-auction purchase is intended for product development and AI-model training; a third party is supposed to remove personally identifiable information before transfer, and the sale still requires court approval. The deal puts a price on the operational context that workplace agents need—how teams coordinate, recover from errors, and use business systems—while reminding data owners that old collaboration archives are now strategic AI assets; Business Arena’s long-horizon agent benchmark shows why that context matters beyond a polished demo.
