Brazil splits $444M AI supercomputer push
Brazil is investing 2.3 billion reais ($444.2 million) in two AI supercomputing projects, splitting the bet between a Huawei-and-iFlytek system in Rio de Janeiro and a second machine in Rio Grande do Norte that officials expect Nvidia to supply, Al Jazeera reports. The larger 1.3 billion-real project is scheduled to begin in July 2027, while the separately tendered system is intended to rank among the world’s 10 most powerful AI machines. For operators, Brazil is filing a useful sovereignty pattern: diversify vendors and jurisdictions rather than treating national AI capacity as synonymous with one country’s stack—an approach that echoes Europe’s sovereign-AI infrastructure bet.
