Qwen3.8-Max finally opens its weights

Alibaba released downloadable weights for Qwen3.8-Max, its 2.4 trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 95 billion parameters active per token, after first making the API available earlier this month. The Hugging Face model card says the open release is text-only and extends context to roughly one million tokens, while its custom license requires a separate license for Model-as-a-Service or AI-work-assistant businesses above $50 million in annual revenue. Builders can now test the weights and shop hosting, but should treat “open” as a deployment option—not automatically a commercial right—alongside the Qwen ecosystem’s shift toward larger open models.
