Flock cuts default surveillance retention to 7 days

Flock Safety has cut the default retention period for its surveillance-camera data from 30 days to 7 days, while still allowing police to preserve longer records through an Evidence Mode override, according to TechCrunch’s account of the company’s changes. The change follows 46 Washington Post-documented cases in which officers were accused of using Flock technology for unauthorized surveillance; builders of AI-enabled monitoring systems should treat retention defaults as a control, not a promise, and audit every override path, as the archive’s data-custody analysis argues.
