Jersey City bans standalone AI data centers
Jersey City’s council voted 9-0 to ban standalone data centers from industrial land, making it New Jersey’s 34th municipality with some form of data-center ban, according to Hudson County View’s account of the vote. The ordinance still permits co-located facilities, and News 12’s report records the counterargument: a ban removes a potential revenue source while residents face a 15.5% property-tax increase. Developers should now treat local land-use consent as a first-order AI capacity constraint, alongside the archive’s $3 trillion data-center buildout math.
