UCSB wins $20M AI cloud lab grant
UC Santa Barbara received a $20 million, four-year federal grant to build an AI-programmable cloud laboratory that vetted U.S. organizations can access remotely, the Santa Barbara News-Press reports. The lab will give researchers access to equipment at UCSB’s OASIS facility for synthetic biology, chemistry, and materials-science work without requiring them to be on campus; Stanford, Caltech, and Scripps also operate the program, according to the report. Scientific-AI builders should watch remote lab access as a deployment primitive: the bottleneck is shifting from model inference to trusted experiment execution, much as the archive’s clinical-AI evidence review argues.
