Gemma challenge turns 1,600 entries into winners

Google announced the winners of its Gemma 4 Good Challenge after more than 1,600 entries arrived over six weeks, while the Gemma family passed 1 billion downloads, according to Google’s challenge report and its Gemma milestone post. The winning projects used Gemma with LiteRT, Cactus, Ollama, llama.cpp and Unsloth to fit useful systems onto everyday hardware, including a physical assistant and accessibility tools. Builders choosing an open model should file the distinction beside the archive’s Gemma 4 analysis: distribution is becoming an ecosystem-and-deployment signal, not just a leaderboard score.
