OpenAI disrupts a Russia-linked influence campaign
OpenAI says it disrupted a Russia-linked covert influence operation by banning the accounts behind a fake Israel-based think tank and a “sovereignty” index that praised Russia while criticizing Western countries, according to The Hacker News’ account and The Decoder’s report. The campaign’s infrastructure included 34 of 36 expert-linked articles copied from elsewhere and Telegram channels with 10,000 to 20,000 followers each; product teams should treat the case as an operational signal for provenance, account-level monitoring, and coordinated takedown procedures, alongside the archive’s analysis of AI’s monitoring compute tax.
