AWS takes DuckDB under its wing

Amazon signed a definitive agreement to acquire DuckLabs, the company behind DuckDB; DuckDB’s project announcement says DuckDB and DuckLake will remain open source under the MIT license and the independent DuckDB Foundation. AWS’s acquisition account says its Quick dashboard engine has processed more than 2.5 billion queries with DuckDB integrations and cut average latency 30%. For agent builders, the signal is who owns the embedded analytics layer: keep DuckDB portable across storage and cloud while watching whether AWS preserves the project’s cross-platform governance, a data-plane concern that complements the archive’s account of stateless MCP migration.
