China formalizes nearly 200 AI standards

China has formulated nearly 200 key AI standards, and its Ministry of Industry and Information Technology says multiple cities are being organized to conduct AI ethics reviews and service practices, according to the State Council Information Office’s Xinhua report. The announcement places standardization and ethics review alongside industrial deployment during the 2026–2030 Five-Year Plan, but does not say how many standards are mandatory or what triggers a failed review. Companies shipping AI into China should file the number as a market-entry signal and track the implementing rules, alongside the archive’s analysis of China’s AI industrial plan.
