Anthropic abandons $7B MatX chip deal

Anthropic discussed buying AI-chip startup MatX for roughly $7 billion, but the talks are no longer active and may have shifted toward a partnership, according to Reuters’ report carried by Channel NewsAsia. MatX was founded by former Google TPU engineers, and the move would give Anthropic a route toward custom training silicon as it tries to reduce reliance on Nvidia.
