Flock cancellations hit 93 jurisdictions in August

Flock Safety lost contracts in 93 US jurisdictions in August alone, a count that rose from 90 in the same day’s reporting as local governments reacted to surveillance, data-sharing, and cost concerns. Ars Technica’s update puts the month at roughly four times the prior month’s cancellations and says 214 jurisdictions have ended their relationship with Flock since 2021. For builders of AI-enabled public-safety systems, the operator signal is procurement—not model accuracy: retention, search, audit, and community-consent terms can become the product’s churn metric, a sharper warning than the archive’s account of Meta turning workplace surveillance into training data.
