OpenAI wins approval for a 3.2GW Georgia campus
Georgia Power says regulators approved its contract to serve OpenAI’s planned Effingham County campus, adding 3,200 megawatts of demand in phases from 2028 through 2032. The utility’s approval announcement says OpenAI will pay the full infrastructure cost and offer up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response. For builders, the useful fact is the procurement shape: hyperscale AI is becoming a multiyear grid contract, a scale that belongs beside India’s $40M-per-megawatt Rubin order.
