Caterpillar budgets $100M for AI training
Caterpillar plans to spend $100 million over five years training its 118,000 employees in AI, autonomy and robotics, while its Cat AI Assistant is already drawing on data from about 1.6 million connected assets and more than 16 petabytes of structured data. For builders, Caterpillar’s deployment lesson is blunt: workflow redesign and operator training matter as much as model access; that constraint sits beside the rising power bill behind AI infrastructure.
