Europe picks €387.8M LUMI-AI supercomputer
Europe just bought a new unit of AI sovereignty: EuroHPC selected Bull for a €387.8 million LUMI-AI supercomputer in Finland, scheduled for 2027 and projected to deliver ten times LUMI’s current AI capacity, according to EuroHPC’s contract announcement. The AMD Instinct MI430X system is co-funded by EuroHPC and a six-country consortium, with access extending to European startups and researchers; CSC’s deployment details describe the shared infrastructure. Regional builders can now price public compute against India’s roughly $40 million-per-megawatt Rubin deployment benchmark, rather than treating sovereign capacity as an abstract subsidy.
