Medtronic invests $700M in surgical robotics

Medtronic is investing approximately $700 million in Cornerstone Robotics and will distribute its Sentire surgical system outside the United States in approved markets, according to Medtronic’s announcement. Sentire has CE Mark approval and approvals in China and Singapore, while Medtronic expects its Hugo system to pass 50,000 global procedures by the end of its fiscal year. Health systems should file this as a portfolio-and-access move in surgical robotics, not evidence that autonomous surgery is ready; it extends the archive’s physical-AI funding record from capital into distribution.
