Canada puts 23 companies behind data-center principles

Canada has published five expectations for data-centre projects, backed by 23 signatories including Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. The federal framework says projects must create lasting local benefits, pay project-driven grid costs, minimize water and environmental impacts, disclose local effects, and bring strategic value; reporting on the pledge notes it carries no penalties or compliance mechanism. For builders, this is a community-and-grid checklist rather than a new permit: the archive’s megawatt economics analysis is the useful cost baseline when a Canadian site pitches cheap power.
