Uber and Wayve launch London robotaxis
Wayve and Uber launched supervised autonomous rides in London on September 3, with more than 140,000 Londoners already opted in. Wayve’s launch announcement says riders can be matched on UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort at no extra cost, but a TfL-licensed private-hire driver remains onboard and airports are excluded. The practical marker is distribution rather than driverless scale: Pony.ai and Uber’s European robotaxi trial showed network ambition, while this launch puts Wayve’s model inside a mass-market app.
