M&T Bank puts 15,000 employees on Copilot
M&T Bank has deployed Microsoft Copilot to more than 15,000 employees, with call summaries saving about six minutes per call, according to American Banker’s account of the bank’s rollout, while AI News reports the same deployment across operations, coding, customer service, and risk work. The bank first blocked public LLMs, piloted Copilot with 800 people, and keeps human review responsible for final work. Operators should file M&T’s rollout as a governance pattern: broad access followed approved tools, data lineage, and accountability—not seat count alone; IBM and OpenAI’s enterprise AI practice makes the same shift from pilots to operating model.
