Ramp sees AI spend per employee fall 10%

Ramp’s August AI Index found that 56% of its 70,000 business customers paid for AI, only 0.4 percentage points above July, while AI spend per employee among the top 1% of firms fell nearly 10% to $7,205. The spending data reported by TechCrunch also puts average token cost at $0.68 per million, down from a 2026 peak of $1.15 in March. For builders, Writer’s finished-task economics is the useful comparison: track accepted work and employee spend, not token volume, before treating cheaper models as demand growth.
