Cohere puts 50 languages on North Small Translate

Cohere released North Small Translate, a 218-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 25 billion active parameters, support for 50+ languages, and an 83.6 WMT26 all-languages score in its launch post. It is available on Hugging Face for research and non-commercial use under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license, so benchmark strength is not the same as a commercial deployment option. Translation teams should test its language-level accuracy and serving cost, then clear the license before adopting it; the archive’s Qwen ecosystem analysis shows why runtimes and derivatives matter as much as weights.
