TAR raises $120M for off-grid AI power

TAR, an Austin startup building off-grid power systems for AI data centers, raised $120 million in a Series A at a $1 billion valuation, according to the funding report. Its modular systems combine renewable generation and battery storage; the company says it will use the capital to expand operations and development. That is a financing signal for AI’s power layer, not proof of delivered megawatts: data-center teams should file TAR as an infrastructure option and demand deployment, uptime, and permitting evidence before treating off-grid capacity as a schedule fix. The archive’s ONEOK analysis of AI-linked power capex shows why electrons belong in the model budget.
