UK health AI gets an L-plate blueprint
The UK’s MHRA-backed National Commission published 44 recommendations after gathering evidence from more than 12,000 people, including staged authorisations likened to L-plates and continuous real-world monitoring for AI medical devices, according to the MHRA’s blueprint for safe AI adoption. The recommendations are not law yet—the government and MHRA will respond later—but they move healthcare AI away from one-time approval toward lifecycle evidence, accountability, and public visibility. Builders shipping clinical tools should start planning post-market monitoring now; OpenAI’s health-data expansion shows why product reach can outrun regulatory clarity.
