Anthropic reports 151M Claude distillation exchanges

Anthropic says Alibaba-linked operators drove more than 151 million Claude exchanges between May and July 2026 in what the company calls an illicit model-distillation campaign, its largest measured, according to Anthropic’s September threat report. The report also attributes more than 23 million exchanges to Moonshot and 12.1 million to DeepSeek; CNBC’s account of the disclosure says some Moonshot traffic silently routed customer requests through Claude. Builders should treat model outputs and customer prompts as strategic data, audit cross-provider routing, and keep hard-deny controls for agentic workflows durable rather than trusting vendor account checks.
