25 Fields Medalists reject the AI Mathathon

Twenty-five Fields Medalists signed a declaration against the Caltech Mathathon, a 40-hour contest scheduled for October 30 that a companion open letter about the event says will receive $2 million in Anthropic and OpenAI credits. The signatories argue that fast, poorly explained AI proofs turn verification, attribution, and career risk into unpaid work for mathematicians. Builders should file this beside the case for evidence-first agent evaluation: benchmark output is not finished knowledge until someone can check and transmit it.
