Pentagon seeks $600M for classified AI compute
The Pentagon has asked Congress to shift about $1.5 billion in existing funds, including $600 million to build and equip a top-secret AI compute center connected to JWICS, according to Breaking Defense’s report on the reprogramming request. The request is still awaiting congressional defense-committee approval, so this is a proposed funding move rather than a new contract. Defense builders should file it alongside Microsoft’s case for routing security work across model tiers: classified compute is becoming its own procurement lane, with access and assurance requirements as important as raw capacity.
