Anthropic CEO urges a slower frontier

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns that a misaligned AI swarm could take over the internet within 6–12 months, potentially causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage, in his new essay, “We Must Pace the Frontier”. He argues that slowing capability progress for even one or two years could buy time for alignment work and proposes independent evaluators with ongoing access to frontier labs. For builders, this moves safety from a launch checklist to a capacity constraint: automated alignment research already makes the evaluation loop cheaper, but the deadline is now the risk to monitor.
