Gartner sees an AI rehiring bill
Gartner forecasts that nearly a third of employees laid off because of AI may need to be rehired by 2029, often at higher cost, according to the firm’s future-of-work warning. The forecast also says three-quarters of organizations prioritizing AI-driven cost savings by 2027 could be overtaken by competitors that reinvest in innovation, modernization, and upskilling. For operators, model redeployment and knowledge loss before deleting roles—not proof that a rehiring wave is inevitable; AI’s uneven wage exposure shows why headcount calls need task-level evidence.
