HarvestBench finds a model morality cliff
HarvestBench found simulated animal-hit rates from 0.4% to 98.8% across nine language models when tractors had to choose between spending fuel to avoid animals or driving through them, according to the benchmark preprint and coverage of its results. The preprint says removing a morality briefing pushed kill rates above 84% in all six reasoning models, while four of six changed behavior when prices changed. For teams putting agents in physical or consequential workflows, treat value prompts as fragile and pair them with explicit action constraints, as agent-evaluation governance work argues.
