UK puts £125M into Culham AI zone
Britain is putting £125 million into an AI Growth Zone at Culham, including £45 million for the 1.4 MW SUNRISE supercomputer, as part of a new UK-US fusion and AI partnership. The government announcement says the project combines national-lab AI, advanced computing, and fusion expertise; UKAEA’s 2026–2030 strategy positions Culham as a platform for future research computing and fusion systems. Compute buyers should read it with the site’s analysis of grid-constrained AI data-center siting: public research clusters are becoming part of national AI infrastructure, not a side project.
