OpenAI Foundation funds $40M health-data effort

OpenAI Foundation is putting $40 million into a University of North Carolina program collecting data on novel cancer vaccines through its new Data for Public Health effort. MIT Technology Review’s report says the foundation is also supporting OpenADMET and hopes to give away $1 billion by year’s end, betting that high-quality datasets—not only larger models—are biology’s bottleneck. Scientific-AI teams should treat the grants as data infrastructure, not proof of clinical impact; Isomorphic Labs’ $2.1 billion drug-discovery raise shows capital can expand a pipeline before any AI-designed drug clears the FDA.
