Cohere and Aleph Alpha sign a 1,000-person merger
Cohere and Aleph Alpha signed a definitive business-combination agreement that will create a transatlantic sovereign-AI company with more than 1,000 employees, according to Cohere’s announcement. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval and would dual-headquarter the combined business in Berlin and Toronto while keeping Aleph Alpha’s Heidelberg office as a research center. It turns Mistral’s Samsung-backed sovereign-AI deployment thesis into a broader vendor question: buyers can track a larger Europe-Canada option, but should wait for final terms and actual hosting boundaries before changing a shortlist.
