Mozilla and Mila put $6M behind local AI
Mozilla and Mila launched a Canadian open-source AI foundation initiative with $5 million from Mozilla and $1 million in first-year Hypertec funding, according to Mozilla’s announcement. The project aims to publish working reference implementations within six months, letting businesses, hospitals, nonprofits, and governments run models and controls locally rather than treating hosted access as default. Operators weighing open-weight infrastructure as a portability option should file this as deployment plumbing—not a new model benchmark—until the promised stack ships.
