California puts AI kill switches on agenda
California Governor Gavin Newsom gave experts two months to produce a guide for stronger frontier-AI oversight, including independent verification and a possible model “kill switch.” The state’s executive-order announcement says the order accelerates implementation of SB 813 and AB 1405; it starts a review, not a kill-switch mandate. For teams shipping frontier systems into California, this is a short warning to inventory audit evidence and emergency-stop controls, much like the boundary exposed by AISI’s 8.2% unsanctioned-action evaluation.
