Voice models miss 1 in 3 new drug names

Synthio Labs’ DOSE benchmark found nine text-to-speech systems passed only 63.1%–80.3% of 274 drug names overall, while Google’s Gemini TTS fell to 61.6% on 146 newly approved medicines. The public DOSE results score each name in a clinical sentence and count 4/5 as a pass; Synthio’s release says ElevenLabs fell to 67.1% on new names. Teams building voice workflows for care, pharmacy, or support should test current drug vocabularies instead of treating natural-sounding audio as pronunciation accuracy, much as the archive’s transcription-tool survey separates voice UX from output quality.
