House bill proposes a 60-day AI review clock
Reps. Josh Gottheimer and Mike Lawler proposed a pre-release national-security review giving the NSA 30 days, plus one 30-day extension, to assess whether covered frontier models could enable serious cyber, chemical, biological, or radiological threats, according to their official announcement. A companion China FIREWALL Act would ban Chinese-developed open-weight models from federal devices and stop agencies buying software that relies on them. For builders selling into government, this is not a new rule—neither bill has passed—but a clear signal that model provenance and documented security review are moving toward procurement requirements, alongside the archive’s warning that evaluation scope changes what scores mean.
