AWS turns two weeks of grid prep into hours
AWS says Duke Energy cut interconnection-study data preparation from two weeks to hours using Agentic Grid Planning, a program that wraps AWS-managed agents around the utility’s existing physics-based models, scripts, and standards. AWS’s announcement says engineers still make final decisions and receive a versioned, reviewable record; more than 2,000 GW of U.S. generation and storage projects were seeking interconnection. Data-center developers should file this as a signal that utility queue work may become more automatable, not as proof that a site gets power faster; the archive’s analysis of AI data-center grid pressure remains the constraint to price.
