IMF models a 1% AI productivity lift in Europe

A September ECOFIN briefing citing IMF research puts Europe’s average five-year cumulative AI productivity gain at roughly 1%, while finding about 60% of workers in advanced European economies occupy highly AI-exposed roles, the meeting document says. That is a scenario, not an observed return: the underlying IMF working paper says gains vary by country and that combined occupation, safety, and privacy rules could cut them by more than 30%. Operators planning AI capacity should treat adoption, labor readiness, and grid constraints as part of the business case, alongside the archive’s analysis of Europe’s AI power bottleneck.
